Playdate with Buddy

Our neighbour two houses down has a male Golden Retriever, 13 months old. He is very often in the garden alone, and we always pass the house on our walks (we = Kimmy and I), and of course, in the beginning every time we passed, the dog would bark and Kimmy would bark her head off in response, her hackles raised.

But over time, these two got used to it, and now they are just dying to play together! His name is Buddy, and he's a friendly fella. He is behind the fence, so they can't get at each other, but this doesn't stop them from playing anyway.

It's truly a sight to watch Kimmy wave her tail rapidly around in excitement, and Buddy wagging in response, and they jump around and have fun touching noses through the fence.

This morning Kimmy was full of beans and really needed her walk to get rid of all this excess energy. We didn't get far. Buddy was in his garden and Kimmy made a beeline straight to him for a play session.

Buddy was desperately trying to crawl under the fence, his head and front paws were sticking out from under the fence and Kimmy was "kissing" him and licking his ear while he tried to sniff her arse. I wish I had a camera with me!!!

Then Kimmy noticed Buddy's raw meaty bone was lying just beside the fence, and what do you know, she stuck her head in (gotta love the long, slim Doberman head), grabbed the bone with her teeth and ran up to the sidewalk, while poor Buddy watched in total amazement how this sneaky Doberman girl runs away with his bone!!!

She was lucky he was behind that fence, poor fella. When he realized she wasn't going to give it back, he barked helplessly at her. So I did the right thing, took the bone from her and threw it back over the fence, and Buddy did his retriever thing and got his bone, and I could swear I saw him smile :)

Kimmy then went back to "make up" and they played some more :)
