The bone instinct
Yesterday happened something funny. I gave Kimmy a raw bone to chew on that Gerry brought from the butcher shop, and she - instead of chewing - just held it in her mouth and fractically searched something and paced through the living room into the hall and back and whined quietly.
I was genuinely puzzled by her behaviour, so I followed her around and watched her. She eventually jumped up on the leather sofa and started excitedly digging with her paws in the sofa (!!!), all the while holding the bone in her mouth.
Then the lightbulb went finally on (yeah, I am a bit slow sometimes), and I realized that she wanted to bury the bone... in the sofa!
So I picked her up and put her on the floor and told her to follow me, and let her outside - she happily started searching for the perfect spot to dig, and finally managed to properly bury her bone.
Obviously, this must be a genetically predisposed behaviour, an instinct, as I don't think she learned that while she was a baby puppy from her Doggy Mama. I wonder why dogs actually bury those bones, is it for "later"?
