The bite seems to be healing well, it's not swollen or anything, just a nice tidy "crust" over the two punctured places. On the opposite side of his calf, Benny has a largish black/blue bruise from the other teeth, thankfully these didn't go through the skin.I will be keeping en eye on it and if it starts looking infected, I will take him to the doctor.I think the problem is that my son is still rather young and Kimmy with her prey drive is tempted to treat him as prey, too.
It's awful. I've become very attached to Kimmy and giving her away just hurts to even think about, but I have to protect Benny. I believe that Kimmy didn't want to hurt him, but she did, and even if we stop going to dog shows and not expose her to this source of stress, there will likely be other sources of stress that might trigger another short circuit reaction on her part.
She really is otherwise a wonderful dog and if Ben was, let's say, 15 years old, we would take the risk and kept her. But he's still so young :(
We finally heard back from the breeder. She is asking us to give Kimmy another chance. She doesn't think the bite is a reason to re-home her, but will take her back if we don't want to give Kimmy a second chance. She is asking us to take some photos of Kimmy standing in the show pose, wearing her golden show ring chain. So I assume she will advertise her as a show dog.
I will make sure the breeder knows exactly what Kimmy's issues are, so that she can choose her new home accordingly.
I will have 2 weeks to say goodbye and enjoy the wonderful cuddling and tongue licks and walks....I want to make the most of the last days with my gorgeous puppy princess.
