Misconceptions

It really saddens me whenever I am confronted with the bad reputation Dobermans have.
Dobies are a common sight in the movies. People are used to seeing people running for their lives as aggressive dogs lunge at them with demonic looking eyes. However, in real life, most Dobermans are actually loyal, intelligent family pets.
The cropped ears add to this image of hardened killers, so I am glad that in most European countries, ear cropping is illegal now, because Dobies with big floppy ears look so much less "threatening".
Look at the advertisement above - Does this make you feel the warm fuzzies? I didn't think so!
The ears make quite a bit of difference, look here:

Katie - you are right on the money about the appearances the dog gives off - it is bad press, but I've seen so many Dobermans in film that are portrayed as mean, nasty, bloodthirsty, etc.
With the natural ear, it looks like a hound, and totally non-threatening.
You are a good person to educate people on what they might not be aware of themselves, a preconceived notion about 'vicious dogs' that's based on a stereotype.
