Grrr!

The other day I was walking Kimmy in the park when we passed an elderly man I have never seen before, but apparently he knew who I was, because he started chatting with me, and it turned out he is a friend of our neighbour.

He had his German Shepherd with him, and seemed eager to do some small talk. He looked at Kimmy and said:

"Nice dog. Look at those ears. Hm, I think I could tolerate the floppy ears... but that tail! So long and thin. No, the tail has to go!"

I was taken aback by this exclamation, so I just shrugged and said that I like her the way she is.

He went on: "But that tail! It will only cause problems. You have to have it cut off."

I said: "Docking tails is not allowed anymore in Luxembourg."

He waved his hand dismissively: "Bullshit!"

I said: "It's the law."

He: "What law?"

Me: "The Animal Protection Law."

He: "Naah, that means nothing. Just get it cut off. Any vet can do it."

It was clear that Grandpa was not going to take no for an answer, so I looked at my watch and said :"Oh, I'd better hurry home, have a nice day" and I walked away as fast as I could without actually running.

What the hell??? Telling me to cut my dog's tail? Hello???

Next time you go to the park, borrow one of hubby's more interesting knives (and maybe a fork, you know, those long ones...) and put them in your handbag. If the uhhh gentleman brings up the subject again, take out your new accessories and with a straight face offer to fix his own tail. Use the fork to point out exactly where it is ('cos touching would be so gross lol) and the knife to do the job.

:-) Just don't tell anyone on e-hell I suggested that lol.

I have never heard of what 'benefit' in docking a poor dog's tail makes. *I* think Kimmy - and ALL dogs look fine as is - I would never inflict some stupid alteration on a poor dog - who knows what the poor animal would suffer for some nonsense.

I think the best thing is that Kimmy is an all-natural dog - and is THAT more beautiful because of it.

Smart to walk away from ignorance like you did - good for you!
